A group of Oakland, Calif., teenagers competing in a regatta found themselves facing what appears to be gunshots as they were in the final stretch.
What’s more, terrified parents were on the scene and witnessed the bullets splashing in the water just fee from the rowers.
The incident took place back on April 20 on the Sacramento River, according to KTVU. There were nine teenagers in the boat, with none of them being injured — at least, physically.

Fred Ackerman, whose 15-year-old son was in the boat at the time of the shooting, was horrified over what was taking place before him.
“I was pretty shocked. I think all of us were. It’s horrifying, to think in this peaceful, green setting, the final push of this race – to see and hear that,” Ackerman told KTVU. “No one saw the shooter. There were dozens and dozens of people, there were boaters and people walking around on the trail. Police don’t know where the shots came from, but they do know it was a gun.”
West Sacramento police are investigating the incident but have no leads. They have not determined where the shots came from, and no one saw the shooters. No firearms were recovered in the area.
The idea of rowers being shot at is certainly not something many parents think about.

Was the shooter trying to motivate the rowers into going faster?
Just amazing that someone would shoot at a rowing team.— SMHonk (@SMHonk1983) May 10, 2024

For charges of “attempted murder” police can geo-locate all cell phones in the area. Just like they did cell geo-location to get some J6 freedom protesters! @alexstein99 @nprpolitics @RealAlexJones @MilitaryTimes @WestPoint_USMA @nypost @ABC7 @FIFAWorldCup pic.twitter.com/QMpvnqUW54

To give you some perspective, my kid was a rower in Philly and in New Orleans. *I never once worried about her or her teammates being shot at while in the water.* This is insane. I feel for these kids and the parents, I hope those responsible will be caught.
