Americans United for Life (AUL) is pleased to share our Life Litigation Report for the first quarter of 2024. The report tracks major life cases across the country in federal and state courts. The goal of the report is to provide a useful resource in addition to AUL’s expertise on pro-life legal and policy issues.

This report describes four life cases introduced to the U.S. Supreme Court, 25 introduced to federal appellate courts, 48 introduced to federal district courts, and many more in state courts across the country.

Emergency Room Abortions

In Moyle, Speaker of the Idaho House of Representatives v. United States, AUL filed an amici curiae brief on behalf of 121 members of Congress that argues the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) does not mandate elective induced abortions, contrary to the reckless actions of the Biden administration.

Abortion Pill Mania at the FDA

In Food & Drug Administration v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, AUL filed an amici curiae brief on behalf of 145 members of Congress that argues the FDA’s unlawful deregulation of chemical abortion drugs has endangered patient health and safety.

Buffer Zones at Pregnancy Resource Centers

Seven cases were introduced in federal courts in Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, New Jersey, and New York that challenge unconstitutional buffer zones for sidewalk counselors at pregnancy resource centers.
