Pro-life members of Congress passed two bills and introduced one yesterday.

On strictly partisan lines, the House of Representatives yesterday passed H.R. 6918, the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act, and H.R. 6914, the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act. The former was introduced by Minnesota Republican Michelle Fischbach and the latter by Iowa Republican Ashley Hinson.

The Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act would ensure that pregnancy resource centers would not be excluded from funds provided by the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program and the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act would require colleges and universities to inform pregnant college students of their rights and resources to carry their preborn children to term.

Members also introduced bicameral legislation yesterday that would amend the Social Security Act to ensure that pregnant mothers can collect child support for their preborn children. The bill was introduced in the Senate by North Dakota Republican Kevin Cramer and in the House of Representatives by New York Republican Claudia Tenney.

Americans United for Life Chief Engagement Officer Tom Shakely said, “These bills are necessary steps in building a culture of life. If policies that fund PRCs, inform college students, and support pregnant mothers are extreme, count us in.”
