Remember the Covington Catholic debacle? The disastrous hoax slander against multiple innocent young men that ended with one of them pulling down hundreds of millions of dollars in defamation payments?

Well, I am pleased to report that the Catholic-schoolkids-getting-slandered-and-collecting-huge-paychecks industry is still going strong:

Two California teens who were forced to withdraw from an elite Catholic high school over accusations of blackface have been awarded $1 million and tuition reimbursement.

A Santa Clara County jury sided with the teens, identified by the initials A.H. and H.H., on two claims concerning breach of oral contract and lack of due process.

The controversy first arose in 2020 when photos circulated of the boys undergoing home acne treatments:

The boys “were accused of performing blackface and were ultimately pressured into withdrawing from the prestigious Mountain View school.”

It’s bad enough being a young man with acne. But to get accused of racism when you’re trying to deal with it is just cruel.

There was, of course, ample evidence that this was not blackface, and was actually just some kids trying to make themselves not have pizza faces. But of course this was in 2020, when everyone was losing their minds and Black Lives Matter had become the de facto national religion.

And so “Principal Katie Teekell called [one plaintiff’s] parents and said the teen was ‘not welcomed back to SFHS.'” His father disputed the dismissal, arguing that the masks were not racist, but that wasn’t enough:

Teekell responded that her decision was not based on ‘intent,’ but ‘optics’ and ‘the harm done to the St. Francis community’.

Translation: “I’m a coward, please sue this school for a ton of money.”

Having won a well-deserved payday, the families want the public to know why they undertook this arduous four-year-long process to begin with:

“This lawsuit is our attempt to redeem our names and reputations, and to correct the record to reflect the truth of what actually happened.”

Hopefully the world gets it now. Bottom line: Don’t falsely accuse kids of racism unless you want a major lawsuit over it.
