What might look like an everyday Family Fare Supermarket sign is actually a luxury apartment that’s within walking distance of the nearest grocery store.

At least that’s what contractors found when they went to do some work on the Family Fare sign in Midland, Michigan.

They followed an extension cord that ran up to the interior of the sign, and inside they found a nice little dwelling with flooring installed, a pantry of food, a mini desk, and even a houseplant.

They called the police who discovered the illegal abode’s resident was a 34-year-old woman with a job and car who had slipped in and out of the sign unnoticed for over a year.

OVER A YEAR!

The police nicknamed her the “Rooftop Ninja”. A police spokesperson said,

I’ve never seen anything like this before in my career.

She made it home.

The store elected not to press charges.

But the police still told the “Rooftop Ninja” that she needed to find somewhere else to live.

They offered her housing assistance and other resources.

But of course, she declined.

Everyone knows that ninjas live by a code of stringent self-reliance.

The Family Fare agreed to help the woman get her belongings down and return them to her.

Okay, scratch that whole self-reliance thing.

Apparently, even ninjas need help carrying stuff off of roofs.
