CNN, to its rare credit, aired a spectacular, unprecedented takedown of President Joe Biden’s economy this week.

During an interview with the president that aired Wednesday, CNN host Erin Burnett laid out the reality of just how bad the economy is faring for the average American worker.

Listen:

“When you talk about the economy, of course, it is by far the most important issue for voters,” she began. “It’s also true right now, Mr. President, that voters by a wide margin trust Trump more on the economy. They say that in polls.”

“And part of the reason for that may be the numbers. And you’re aware of many of these, of course. The cost of buying a home in the United States is double what it was, when you look at your monthly costs, from before the pandemic,” she added.

“Real income, when you account for inflation, is actually down since you took office. Economic growth last week [was] far short of expectations. Consumer confidence, maybe no surprise, is near a two-year low,” Burnett concluded.

She then asked the president whether he’s worried he’s running out of time to “turn” the economy “around.”

The president, not surprisingly, went into full denial mode. First, he pointed to some “Michigan survey” that allegedly showed that 65 percent of Americans “think they’re in good shape economically.” Then he started claiming CNN’s polls are all “wrong.”

“The polling data has been wrong all along,” he said. “How many — you guys do a poll at CNN. How many folks you have to call to get one response? The idea that we’re in a situation where things are so bad, the folks that — I mean, we have created more jobs. We have made — we’re in a situation where people have access to good-paying jobs.”

“And the last I saw, the combination of the inflation, the cost of inflation and all those things, that’s really worrisome to people, with good reason. That’s why I’m working very hard to bring the cost of rentals down, to increase the number of homes that are available,” he added.

He concluded by claiming America boasts the strongest economy in the world under his leadership.

Responding to the president’s words, critics later bashed him for being in denial of reality:

The denial continued throughout the interview. For example, later in the interview, Burnett pointed out that “there’s real pain” out in the world thanks to grocery prices being up over 30 percent since the start of the pandemic.

How did the president reply? By arguing that Americans “have the money to spend” and that the real problem is corporations practicing “shrinkflation.”

Hilariously, the president also promised during the interview that his opponent in the 2024 presidential race, former President Donald Trump, will “not accept the outcome of the election.”

Undergirding the president’s claim was the arrogant assumption that he will win the 2024 presidential election. But what if Trump wins? Will Biden and his fellow Democrats accept that?
