South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem should leave well enough alone, given the fallout over an anecdote in her new book about shooting a dog she later deemed to be a danger to her children.

Instead, the governor has pushed ahead on a media tour plugging No Going Back, and to suggest that it has been a disaster is an understatement. With a passage about a supposed meeting with North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un reportedly being scrubbed on reprints and the audio and ebook editions, the Republican politician cannot get from underneath the story of killing Cricket, her 14-month-old German wirehaired pointer.

On Tuesday, Noem appeared on Fox Business Network’s Varney & Co, where host and show namesake Stuart Varney badgered her relentlessly about Cricket. He pressed so hard that Noem would eventually snap back: “Enough, Stuart. This interview is ridiculous, what you are doing right now. You need to stop.”

“Do you think it was good politics to include that story?” Varney asked at one point. He also pressed her on whether she still thinks she’s “in line to be [Donald] Trump’s vice president,” and asked her, “Did the dog story come up in your conversations with Trump?”

When Noem noted that she talks to the former president all the time, Varney interjected, “About the dog?” Noem tried to move the discussion along by talking about Trump being persecuted by the Biden regime, but Varney was fixated on getting a soundbite on Cricket, asking again if she brought up the dog with Trump. This is what triggered Noem to say, “Enough.”

“Let’s talk about some real topics that Americans care about,” Noem added, prompting Varney to reply, “I’m afraid we’re out of time.”

“Oh, well, of course we are,” she responded sarcastically.

“We do thank you for being with us. I know I pressed hard, but that’s what people are talking about to this day,” Varney said to close out the segment, well aware that he had irked his guest.

Conservative pundit Matt Walsh seemed to sum it up well when he tweeted: “Why is she still doing interviews? This is insane. Everyone on her team should be fired for pushing her into this or allowing it to happen. There is no win here. No way that an interview on this subject can be anything but embarrassing for her. She should have done one interview — if that — and then said nothing about any of this ever again.”

Another social media user suggested that Noem was about to take Varney out to the gravel pit, but all humor aside, the governor needs to lay low for a while and STOP TALKING.
