Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is trying to hide the illegal aliens housed in his city from the Democrat National Convention this summer. He wants to move them away from the convention’s venue.

Out of sight, out of mind. The Democrat mayor who supports sanctuary cities wants to build a temporary shelter close to Guaranteed Rate Field on the South Side ahead of the convention. Ald. Nicole Lee said her office was told that Johnson is considering moving illegal aliens from the Loop to a new shelter in Bridgeport.

She is against the idea.

“Earlier this week, Mayor Johnson’s administration notified Ald. Lee that they are considering plans to build a new temporary migrant shelter in the 11th Ward at 3951 S Canal St. to replace the Standard Club shelter downtown before the Democratic National Convention,” a statement from Lee’s office read in part. “As our city grapples with this unprecedented influx of migrants, it is crucial that we handle the migrant crisis safely, responsibly, and with full transparency. The well-being of our communities must be the top priority.”

The mayor may be moving ahead despite the alderwoman’s objections and those of the neighborhood. Nothing has been decided yet. Most importantly, the mayor’s office admits it never spoke to the building owner of the Canaryville space before looking to turn it into a shelter.

Hidden behind a tree-lined street, a warehouse was under consideration for becoming the city’s newest migrant shelter.

Resident Michelle Gusich said she was confused. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson repeatedly said he intends to consolidate the city’s migrant shelters and might open another one in her neighborhood.

“I understand Mayor Johnson has a tough job, but he signed up for that job,” Gusich said.

Back in February, Mayor Johnson said, “We actually don’t know how many buses are going to come leading up to the DNC.”

Johnson is not the sharpest tool in the shed. He frequently proves that he is not up to the responsibilities of his job. The Democrat mayor used to brag about supporting sanctuary cities before illegal aliens began showing up on buses from Texas. He soon changed his tune and now he plays victim as he begs for help from the Biden administration.

There is a maximum of 28 shelters in Chicago. Only 17 are active shelters. About 8,000 illegal aliens live there.

Residents are speaking out against shelters in their neighborhoods.

“Now that the DNC is coming, we gotta move them all out. We just gotta stuff them in other people’s neighborhoods,” said one resident

“I have watched this since day one. Every neighborhood is affected. And I understand,” Gusich said. “Nobody tells us.”

That is what Democrats do in sanctuary cities – they sanitize areas where events will happen to cover up real life in their cities. It happened when the Chinese dictator visited San Francisco. Governor Newsom swept the homeless off the streets and cleaned the city up. He won’t do that for the people who live in San Francisco but he did it for Xi. The same is true in cities like El Paso. The Democrat mayor moved homeless illegal aliens off the streets before President Biden’s visit. Biden didn’t see a single illegal alien during his brief visit.

It is being reported this week that Johnson has changed his mind

The change came after the owners of the property said Johnson never informed them of his plans to use the building at 3951 S. Canal St. for a shelter. When the Tribune asked the city about that apparent disconnect, the Department of Family and Support Services released a Monday statement saying the city is “no longer considering” doing so.

“We were surprised to hear news reports of the City’s plan to possibly use our property as a migrant shelter,” Bajaj Medical, the pharmaceutical company that owns the building in the New City neighborhood, said in a Sunday statement. “Bajaj Medical has not been contacted by City officials, and has not approved, and does not intend to approve any public use of this property.”

DFSS’ statement acknowledged that was true but clarified that “while City staff had not had conversations with the owner, there were conversations held with the owner’s broker of the property and our vendor.”

Johnson didn’t bother to give the community a heads-up about what he planned. He and President Biden are becoming increasingly unpopular among traditional Democrat voters in Chicago because of the Biden border crisis and its consequences. Black voters are saying they will vote for Trump because he will close the border. Whether or not they make good on that in November remains to be seen. How bad do things have to get in big blue cities before black voters vote in their own best interests, not blindly follow Democrats as they have in the past? This election cycle may be the beginning.
