Biden Meets With King Of Jordan, Reiterates Position On Rafah

President Joe Biden has met with the King of Jordan.

On Monday, Biden held an informal meeting with King Abdullah II bin Al-Husseinat at the White House.

The private meeting came before Hamas reportedly agreed to a ceasefire amid Jordan’s concern over Israel’s ground operation in Rafah.

Prior to the meeting, Israel told Gazans in parts of Eastern Rafah to evacuate.

Biden’s meeting also came after he spoke on the phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The White House said he updated the prime minister on efforts to secure a hostage deal. Biden’s position against a military offensive in Rafah was reiterated during the call.

“I will reiterate again that we cannot and we will not speak for IDF operations, but we’ve made clear our views about operations in Rafah that could potentially put more than a million-innocent people at greater risk. During his call with Prime Minister Netanyahu, the president again made this clear,” Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby said.

“We continue to believe that the hostage deal was the best way to avoid that sort of an outcome while securing the release of those hostages,” he stated. “And as I said, those conversations continue.”

The White House also said that Netanyahu agreed to keep a crossing in Southern Gaza open for humanitarian assistance.
