The White House has issued a statement regarding the protests against Israel taking place on college campuses throughout the United States.

While speaking to the press on Tuesday, National Security spokesman John Kirby said that President Joe Biden believes forcibly taking over buildings at universities is absolutely wrong and is not an example of peaceful protest.

This comes as students at colleges across the nation set up tent encampments to protest the Israel-Hamas war.

Kirby noted that hate symbols have no place in this country. He also said that students paying to go to school should be able to do so without disruption.

“We continue to believe in the freedom of speech and the right to protest policies and ideas that you want to protest,” he said. “You just got to do it peacefully. You can’t hurt anybody and you can’t in this case like to Peter’s question, you can’t be disrupting the educational pursuit of your fellow students and they have a right to go to school and they have a right to do so safely.”

Kirby says there is no active effort to authorize the National Guard at this time. He is also not aware of any evidence of bad actors at college protests.
