A controversial bill in Tennessee allowing the death penalty for anyone convicted of rape of a child passed the House of Representatives on Monday. But many Democrats pushed back during the floor vote as producer and director Robby Starbuck noted in a social media post.

“The vote was 77 to 19. The 19 who voted against it are ALL Democrats. You have to see the evil way Democrats opposed it,” Starbuck wrote in a lengthy post on X.

“Pro-abortion Dem. Rep.@AftynBehn called it “incompatible with the right to life.” Yes the lady with a planned parenthood endorsement on her site ACTUALLY said that in defense of child rapists,” Starbuck continued, referring to Rep. Aftyn Behn, a Democrat.

“Aftyn supports killing unborn babies but not killing child rapists. Other TN Democrats like Gloria Johnson and Justin Jones also opposed the bill alongside Aftyn,” the post continued, accompanying a video of the floor vote.

Starbuck also posted on Instagram.

“Rep. Gloria Johnson echoed Behn’s comments, saying rape of a child and aggravated rape of a child were already crimes that require 100% of sentences be served. Adding in the possibility of the death penalty was not the best way for the state to enforce the crimes,” WATE reported.

House Majority Leader William Lamberth (R-Portland), praised as a “true hero of survivors,” said on the House floor that “atrocities they have suffered deserve the severest of punishments.”

The bill heads to Gov. Bill Lee‘s desk for his signature.

“Child rapists will have no safe space in Tennessee. I don’t care what race you are, what party you vote for, what your job is or what religion you profess to follow… If you rape kids, you deserve the death penalty and society should not pay for you to continue living. Period,” Starbuck wrote.

“As happy as I am that we got this law passed, I’m left wondering… Why do so many democrats in office care more about the lives of child rapists than they do about innocent unborn babies? Why do they think pedophiles have more of a right to life than an unborn baby? How can anyone support them after this?” he added.

“For anyone who thinks maybe Dems voted against it because it was part of a larger bill or something, it wasn’t. This was a stand alone bill to give juries the option to hand down the death penalty for child rapists. That’s it,” Starbuck concluded. “Whether they admit it or not, those 19 pro-abortion Democrats stood in defense of child rapists with their votes. I can’t wrap my head around that.”
