Steve Bannon has called on former President Donald Trump to up his electoral game immediately lest he lose to President Joe Biden in November.

Speaking this week on his “War Room” podcast, Bannon asserted that Trump’s “campaign has got to pick itself up, dust itself off, and understand Biden’s got $2 billion [in fundraising].”

Listen:

“He’s got the power of the presidency he stole,” Bannon said. “He’s got all the media, all the universities, all entertainment. He’s got the same cultural punch he’s had before. The people hate him and they hate his policies, but they’ll try to gloss that over as they destroy Trump.”

“And we have to go all in. You have to do a gut check right now. If you think for a second that this thing is done. … All bets are off. All bets are off. Right now, every day is a new day, and every day you need to be at the ramparts on the evening of Nov. 5th. If we don’t pull this off, then walk into the bathroom and look yourself in the mirror and go, what did I do, and what didn’t I do? Because Trump does not have the support of the elites; he’s got the support of you, and that’s it.”

His remarks come amid polling data showing the race tightening, with Trump’s average national lead now only .3 percentage points, according to RealClearPolitics.

The good news is that Trump is still dominating key battleground state polls, including for Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, and Wisconsin.

However, the former president is struggling in Pennsylvania. One poll published around the start of the month found that 48 percent of Pennsylvania voters support Biden, whereas only 38 percent support Trump.

There is a slight catch to the results in PA though. When independent candidates Ronald F. Kennedy Jr. and Jill Stein were factored into the poll, Biden’s support dropped to 42 percent, while Trump’s support rose to 40 percent.

Bannon isn’t alone in critiquing Trump’s campaign. Simon Rosenberg, a veteran Democrat strategist, recently issued his own criticism of the former president’s campaign.

“What’s happening in national media right now is there is a growing sense that the orange emperor has no clothes,” he told “reporter” Aaron Rupar in an interview. “Where the media narrative started shifting on this race was when it became clear that Trump was having fundraising problems and Republicans are struggling with money. At that point it started dawning on people that maybe he’s actually naked.”

“I think the Trump campaign is in much greater trouble than conventional wisdom would indicate right now. … Where it’s going to be a month or two months from now, we have no way of knowing. But I’m not really surprised by what we’re seeing because I think many of us thought this was what was going to happen as the campaign started engaging our coalition and getting them to pay attention to the race,” he added.

Meanwhile, a Pew Research Center report published Wednesday revealed that voters in general are “broadly critical” of both candidates.

“A defining characteristic of the contest is that voters overall have little confidence in either candidate across a range of key traits, including fitness for office, personal ethics and respect for democratic values,” the report reads.

The report did find Trump has an advantage, in that over a third of voters believe he boasts the physical fitness and mental fitness to serve as president. Conversely, a majority of voters are confident in neither President Biden’s physical fitness or mental fitness.

This doesn’t mean Biden has no advantages.

“Where Biden has the advantage: More voters are extremely or very confident in Biden (34%) than in Trump (26%) to act ethically in office,” the center notes. “And while 38% say they are at least very confident in Biden to respect the country’s democratic values, fewer (34%) express that level of confidence in Trump.”

More notable is the finding that a whopping 49 percent of voters would, if they had the power, replace both Biden and Trump on the ballot.
