Rep. Donald Payne Jr., D-N.J., a six-term congressman, died on Wednesday at the age of 65.
Payne had a heart attack on April 6 and was put on a ventilator at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.
His office said he had a “cardiac episode based on complications from his diabetes.”
He ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
