Six years ago, wildlife photographer Simon Dell was battling depression when he saw a mouse in his backyard and decided to protect the tiny critter from the neighborhood cats.

He began by building a little house for the mouse, a home that has turned into an entire village complete with 20 mice.

Dell shares photos and videos of the mice on his social media platforms. He says that his followers make the time he spends on the mini-shire even more rewarding, as he’s able to help bring a smile to their faces.

Dell told SWNS,

As I have always suffered with depression, insomnia, and anxiety, they are always there to support me in good or bad times — and many find my photos and videos help make them smile daily and lift their moods. That has always been my goal to make others smile along with keeping my mind and body active.

What started as a simple house for one mouse has transformed into incredibly detailed structures and props for the mice, including a bookshop, pub, tables and chairs, and even a little boat.

Here’s some videos of the mice scampering around:

But really, who could be depressed seeing those pictures?
