A truly disturbing scene at a Rio de Janeiro bank was captured on video and shared on social media where the “truly creepy” footage sparked a variety of reactions.

Footage showed a Brazilian woman identified as Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes wheeling a man she repeatedly called “uncle” into the bank to purportedly sign a document that would then allow her to secure a $3,400 loan.

The only problem, it soon became evident, was that the man in the chair was deceased.

“Uncle, are you listening? You need to sign it. If you don’t sign, there’s no way, because I can’t sign for you,” Nunes told the man while trying to get him to hold a pen and directing him to hold it “hard.”

“Sign so you don’t give me any more headaches, I can’t take it anymore,” she reportedly said, holding up his head as it kept dropping back uncontrollably.

A bank worker expressed his apprehension but Nunes dismissed the concerns.

“I don’t think this is legal. He doesn’t look well. He’s very pale,” the bank employee reportedly said.

“He is like that. He doesn’t say anything,” Nunes responded, turning to ask the deceased, “If you’re not well, I can take you to hospital. Do you want to go back to hospital again?”

Alarmed staff at the bank branch in Bangu had evidently seen enough and put in a call to the police who arrived and arrested the woman. The man was identified as 68-year-old Paulo Roberto Braga and had reportedly died a few hours before being wheeled into the bank.

“She tried to pretend to get him to sign the loan. He already entered the bank dead,” Police Chief Fábio Luiz told Brazil broadcaster, TV Globo. “The main thing is to continue the investigation to identify other family members, and find out more about this loan.”

“Officials have appeared to signal they are related and are said to be checking CCTV cameras inside and outside the bank to see if Mr Braga’s family member was on her own or with alleged accomplices amid suspicion they could be dealing with an organised fraud,” Daily Mail reported. “The results of a post-mortem to establish cause of death have not yet been made public.”

The video prompted horrified reactions on social media.

Other responses on X seemed to have a common theme.
