Former Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz claimed in an interview on Tuesday that the “evidence is overwhelming” against Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and herself should be on trial for the “worst crimes that I’ve seen prosecutors commit.”

In an interview with Newsmax TV, Dershowitz said Willis “ought to be on trial for perjury, conspiracy to commit perjury, and witness tampering.” He added: “The evidence is overwhelming that she committed perjury, including technical scientific evidence and several witnesses.”

The law professor’s remarks came after former President Donald Trump and eight co-defendants in Willis’ RICO case filed a motion with the state court of appeals over the weekend seeking to have the DA removed from the case for unethical behavior.

Last month, Georgia Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee decided that prosecutor Nathan Wade had to leave a case due to his affair with Willis, who appointed him. He also said that Willis would have to step down if Wade continued working on the case.

After the ruling, Wade resigned from his position but Dershowitz claimed on Tuesday that there is “overwhelming” evidence suggesting that Willis had received payment.

“Essentially she got kickbacks for appointing this highly unqualified person to head the prosecution,” said Dershowitz. “I sure hope the appellate court takes the case and throws her out of the case and recommends that there be a criminal investigation … we have to have an independent prosecutor of some kind looking into what is an open and shut case of perjury.”

Critics say that both Willis and Wade lied in McAfee’s court about the start date of their relationship, among other questionable testimony.

Dershowitz also weighed in on Manhattan Judge Juan Merchan, who modified a gag order issued a week prior after Trump criticized his daughter, who is a Democratic political consultant.

“He is a judge ruling to protect his own daughter,” said Dershowitz. “Talk about a conflict of interest. The law is very clear if the judge, for example, is sitting on a case where his daughter could benefit financially, of course, the judge would have to disclose that and recuse himself. And of course, the defendant would have the right to point that out.”

Dershowitz on Tuesday further discussed the Biden campaign and the situation with the Jewish vote, Newsmax noted further.

“If you think Florida is in play, then you better think hard about your attitude toward Israel and not worry so much about what’s going on in Minnesota and Michigan and Wisconsin,” he said. “If you become perceived as anti-Israel, you don’t have a shot in hell of carrying the very large Jewish and pro-Israel vote in Florida, and that is a cautionary tale that you want to take for granted.”

Meanwhile, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe characterized Alvin Bragg’s request for an expanded gag order against Donald Trump as nothing but a “distraction” from the criminal hush money case against the former president.

McCabe, who was fired from his position during the Trump administration after he was caught lying to Justice Department investigators about leaking information to the media regarding the Trump-Russia collusion probe, made his remarks to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer after New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan expanded a previous gag order against the 45th president.

The new order prohibits Trump from attacking the family members of Merchan and Bragg. The expanded order came after Trump ripped Merchan’s daughter, who is a Democratic activist, over a picture of Trump behind bars she posted to a social media account.

“Wolf, I’m afraid that the request for clarification by D.A. Bragg is a perfect example of how these gag orders create more of a distraction than they do a productive limitation of…Donald Trump’s speech,” McCabe argued.

He noted further:

I think each time we’ve had a gag order, whether it’s in the civil case, or the gag order in the D.C. federal case that’s already been litigated — each time the Trump team takes advantage of the imposition of those orders to file appeals to request clarification, to make overheated statements. All of that distracts the prosecutors and the prosecution team away from their main role, which is to stay focused on the case and put together the best case they can. I’m just not convinced that these gag orders are worth the effort that has to go behind.
