Under Democrats, Half of Abortion Facilities Fail Inspection; Abortion Complications Up 3x in Five Years

HARRISBURG, PA – In response to yesterday’s ruling from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in Allegheny Reproductive Health Center v. Pennsylvania, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America issued the following statement:

“Once again an activist court claims to have discovered a ‘right’ to abortion on demand, paid for by taxpayers, where no such concept exists. Moreover, they’ve decided this so-called ‘right’ exists in such a separate class that the people and their elected legislature are permitted to have no say on one of the most debated issues of our time,” said SBA Pro-Life America’s State Policy Director Katie Daniel.

“Pennsylvania law currently limits brutal late-term abortions at 24 weeks, the start of the third trimester – and thankfully so, because this law allowed infamous abortionist Kermit Gosnell to be brought to justice for delivering babies alive and cutting their necks after authorities turned a blind eye for decades. Nor should we forget women like Karnamaya Mongar who lost their lives because of his filthy ‘house of horrors.’ Yet pro-abortion Governor Josh Shapiro and his allies are threatening to bring back the days of Gosnell and impose their no-limits agenda of abortion on demand, for any reason, through all nine months. We thank our pro-life allies in the Assembly who are holding the line for Pennsylvania women and children.”

Pennsylvania’s Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro recently canceled state funding for the award-winning Real Alternatives program and has redirected those funds to abortion businesses instead. During his time in the state legislature, in the wake of the Gosnell scandal, Shapiro voted against bipartisan legislation to require surgical abortion facilities to follow the same safety regulations as all other surgical facilities. Data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health shows that abortion complications have tripled in the last five years and that half of abortion facilities failed health inspections last year.
