The man who would be vice president had Kamala Harris won in November is backing David Hogg’s run for Democratic National Committee’s vice chair.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is throwing his support behind Hogg, claiming that the young anti-gun activist is “exactly” what the party needs after their resounding defeat in November.

“David Hogg represents exactly the kind of bold, dynamic, and courageous leadership the Democratic Party needs right now,” the governor said in his endorsement. “After campaigning with David throughout the country, I know firsthand his unique ability to connect with the American people and to speak to the strengths of our party.”

Having apparently learned nothing from his electoral loss, Walz added that he looks forward to working with Hogg, should he win.

“This is exactly what we need right now: experienced, thoughtful, and energized leadership that meets people where they are and takes bold action to win. I couldn’t be happier to throw my support behind him and his vision for the party, and I look forward to working with him every step of the way.”

Hogg was supportive of Walz during the 2024 presidential campaign and thanked him for the full-throated endorsement.

“Ever since the shooting at my high school, he’s been a champion for the gun violence prevention movement––exemplifying leadership that listens, takes action, and works tirelessly to better our lives,” he said. “Beyond his commitment to public service, Governor Walz is a good human being, plain and simple. He’s a good, decent man, and the Democratic Party is fortunate to have him in its ranks.”
