Some of the most luxurious and highly sought-after homes in the country found themselves in the line of fire… literally.

Wildfires that began mid-morning continued to rage into the night throughout the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles.

The Palisades Fire was first reported around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of North Piedra Morada Drive. By 3:30 p.m., the fire had exploded to more than 2,900 acres and was expected to keep growing amid strong Santa Ana winds.

Home to many Hollywood celebrities, multimillion-dollar homes were quickly at risk as 30,000 people were ordered to evacuate. Actor James Woods posted to X Tuesday afternoon showing how close the fires were getting to his home:

Woods posted later Tuesday night saying he and his family had successfully evacuated but did not know the condition of his home.

In case anyone was wondering, Governor Gavin Newsom did make an appearance to survey the crisis:

Meanwhile, the fire spread into Malibu and firefighters are running out of water. The city of Santa Monica also issued an evacuation order for some of its residents. The Santa Anna winds driving the fires are reaching 60-100mph, enough to blow out windows.

A second fire then broke out in Altadena, which is northeast of Pacific Palisades, later in the evening. Other reports of smaller fires are also coming in.

Many are criticizing the government for not being prepared, noting the lack of water for firefighting efforts, failure to burn old brush piles, and issues with old, failing electrical lines that are sparking in the high winds.

The videos that have been posted to social media are haunting.

[Warning: Violence, Language]

This one was perhaps the most horrifying, as no one seems to know the fate of the two men and the dog that filmed the fire beating against the walls of their house.

The situation is fluid, with no reports yet as to the number of homes or lives lost.

Actor Chris Pratt encouraged everyone to pray for the firefighters facing this chaos.

Amen.
