There are few certainties in life: death, taxes, and that MSNBC’s Joy Reid will gleefully spread whatever dumb leftwing hoax is currently making the internet rounds. The latest outrage over a botched handshake is but the most recent example.

KAMALA HARRIS: Today was, obviously, a very important day and it was about what should be the norm and what the American people should be able to take for granted, which is that one of the most important pillars of our democracy is that there will be a peaceful transfer of power. (VIDEO SWIPE) And today, America’s democracy stood.

JOY REID: But this was the way that at least one Republican’s spouse reacted to the Congress- uh, Senator- to the Vice President of the United States on Friday when she swore in Deb Fischer of Nebraska. It appears that the husband of this United States Senator would not even shake hands with the Vice President of the United States. And I think what that shows, Congressman (Bennie Thompson), is that there is not an equal reverence for democracy in both of these two parties.

Congressman Thompson, the Democrat chair of the House January 6th Committee, would go on to call Bruce Fischer “uncouth”, echoing other media personalities and Democrat politicians in denouncing the perceived snub. Former CNN host Don Lemon went on BlueCry and called Fischer an “old, racist POS.” 

But this is all fake outrage. And because we live in such stupid times, it becomes necessary to memorialize the sequence of events for the record. 

Mr. Fischer was holding the Bible with his left hand, and a cane with his right hand. Mr. Fischer was still holding the Bible when VP Harris extended her hand, after shaking Sen. Fischer’s hand subsequent to her swearing-in. Mr. Fischer would have had to drop his cane in order to shake the VP’s hand. As anyone who has ever had to use a cane can attest, one does not simply drop their cane, lest they risk aggravating whatever condition or injury led them to use a cane in the first place. Having no free hand to shake, Mr. Fischer acknowledged VP Harris with a head nod and said “thank you.” VP Harris then glanced at the cane, retracted her hand, and made an “oops” face while mouthing either “that’s all right” or “I’m sorry.” 

Anyone with half a brain watching the video at half speed and in good faith could have arrived at the same interpretation of facts as laid out above. But many chose to feed their outrage brain worms instead, truth be damned. This wasn’t a snub rooted in racism or, per Jor Reid’s galaxy-brain take, proof evident of a lack of reverence for Democracy™. If we’re being totally honest, this is Kamala Harris’s very own “stand up” moment:

An honest media not invested in furthering Democrat propaganda would report the muffed handshake as such, and not as an unveiled insurrectionist racism. But that may be a bridge too far, especally for such an active spreader of disinformation as Joy Reid. Not very “joyful!”
