In one of the most interesting corporate developments in a long time, Meta announced today that it is bringing three new members into its board of directors. One of them is Dana White, proprietor of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, a speaker at the Republican National Convention, and one of Donald Trump’s closest friends. This is Meta’s announcement:

Many corporations have been reaching out to Trump and his circle, contributing money for his inauguration, and so on. But this strikes me as something more important than that. Mark Zuckerberg has not been on the liberal plantation lately, if he ever was. He has expressed regret for enforcing the federal government’s censorship demands. And in the last few years, he has gotten interested in mixed martial arts, and has even fought himself. There are very few liberals in the combat sports. And, while speaking guardedly, Zuckerberg has expressed admiration for Donald Trump’s courage.

Meta’s announcement refers to Dana White’s remarkable success as an entrepreneur and brand builder. Those are valuable qualities in a board member. But I think Zuckerberg is serious about staking out a position for Meta/Facebook that is not subservient to the Left. It’s only a hunch, but I suspect that Zuckerberg dislikes liberals’ bullying ways. White is an outspoken advocate of free speech and is unabashedly patriotic, and I think Zuckerberg, and likely others at Meta, are signaling that the days when Facebook will censor conservatives are over.

This is Dana White’s response to Meta’s press release:

A few years ago, who could have imagined that Twitter would be owned by a libertarian, and Facebook would have someone like Dana White on its board? The times they are a-changin, as someone once said.
