The Associated Press announced its awards for the top women athletes of 2024. Caitlin Clark won the title, as you would expect. But then you have this:
Olympic gymnast Simone Biles was second with 25 and boxer Imane Khelif was third, getting four votes.
What is odd about this is that Imane Khelif isn’t a woman. He is a man who boxed in the women’s division in the Paris Olympics. This came after he was repeatedly disqualified from women’s events because he has male genitalia and XY chromosomes. The Olympics let him compete as a woman, apparently because he says he is a woman, despite all the evidence to the contrary.
The AP’s selection has been widely derided, especially by actual women:

The absurd part is @AP knows he is a man (just as anyone with eyes does), but they just don’t care. His medical records showing his chromosomes & anatomy are public.
4 dunces just genuinely believe a man makes the best woman.
Why have a woman’s award if a man can win it? https://t.co/CqB67r35QN

I would add one more point. There were six weight classes at which women boxed in the 2024 Olympics. Thus, six gold medalists. What, exactly, made Imane Khelif special so that he, and not any of the five actual women, was chosen as the third most notable “woman” athlete of 2024?
Obviously, it was the fact that he was really a man. He did not stand out or excel in any other way. The AP’s award was a matter of politics, not sports.
In that context, the award is ironic. The Democratic Party’s embrace of weird sexual dogma–girls will be boys and boys will be girls, it’s a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world–was a secondary but significant reason why the Democrats went down in flames in November. In my opinion, Riley Gaines, a definite woman as anyone who has met her will tell you, was Trump’s secret weapon.
Democratic politicians have figured this out, and I don’t expect we will hear a lot about “trans” ideology going forward. But the Associated Press apparently hasn’t gotten the message. Like the Japanese holdout on an obscure Pacific island in the years following WWII, the Associated Press seems not to realize that this particular war is over, and they lost.
