Normally Kevin Drum is one lefty who is worth reading because he follows the data and thus often defects from progressive orthodoxy and cliches. But his normal good sense deserted him completely with his observation that public trust in the mainstream media hasn’t really declined—it has only declined among Republicans! Drum:

In the post-Fox era, Republicans have lost trust in the mainstream media. Among Democrats, trust has actually gone up a little.

I don’t dispute the data, but wonder how Drum can be so clueless in his interpretation: if Republicans used to have more trust in the media, why did it change? Blaming Fox News can’t be the reason; perhaps media bias has grown that much more pronounced, which is why, as Drum observes, Democrats trust the media more.

And, just what he tell can he mean by”post-Fox era,” given that Fox News ratings are way up and CNN and MSNBC have fewer viewers most days than Power Line has readers?

P.S. The “reader note” for Drum’s post about this on Twitter/X points out:

This graphic misrepresents the Gallup results from “Americans’ Trust in Media Remains at Trend Low.” The posted graphic excludes Gallup’s “faith in media” results for Independents, at 27%. It also excludes the By Age Group, which shows 18-29 and 30-49 for all parties at 26%.
