The modern Democratic Party has a serious branding problem that cost it dearly in the 2024 election, and Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV) explained what it is.

The Mountaineer State moderate has frequently found himself in sharp disagreement with President Joe Biden and the far-left ideology that has become the party’s dominant strain and a lost election has to have him feeling vindicated.

In an interview on Sunday’s edition of “Inside Politics with Manu Raju” on CNN, the outgoing lawmaker, who after a lifetime of being a Democrat switched to Independent, told the host that there’s one word that best describes his now former party after explaining why he felt he needed to break up with them.

“I am not a Democrat in the form of what the Democratic Party has turned itself into the national brand, absolutely not. And they know that,” said Manchin who until earlier this year was a lifelong Democrat.

Asked by Raju what drove him to the “divorce” from the party, Manchin explained how the party had alienated him, a Democrat from the day he was born when the party was still that of FDR and later, John F. Kennedy who must be spinning in their graves at what it’s been allowed to become.

“The brand got so bad, the D-brand has been so maligned from the standpoint of, it’s just, it’s toxic,” Manchin said.

The blame in his opinion belongs to the progressives, the AOC-Bernie Sanders wing of the party that until November 5, had been ascendant in domestic politics despite public revulsion at their ideas, bullying, and unseemly childish behavior.

The far-left progressives have deviated from the old party’s defense of the middle class and jobs toward social justice issues such as the promotion of sexual deviance and transgenderism which they forced down the throats of Americans, demanding strict obedience to their dogma.

“It has changed tremendously… they have basically expanded upon thinking, ‘Well, we want to protect you there, but we’re going to tell you how you should live your life from that far on,’” Manchin said.

“It’s the mindset of the left, the progressive left,” he continued. “Which is always a minority. In West Virginia, the Democratic Party is perceived to pour more attention and more resources to people that are capable and able-bodied that won’t work and don’t work, than those that do.”

Raju then read a quote from new Progressive Caucus Chair Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX), a far-left anti-cop firebrand.

“He says, ‘if the Democratic Party was a little more like Chairwoman Jayapal, and a little less than like Joe Manchin, I think we would have won this election,” referring to outgoing chair, Israel-hating Hamas rape apologist Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), one of the party’s most extremist House members.

“They’d have lost… they got to be nuts,” Manchin responded.

“This country is not going left,” the senator also declared.

There’s another word that also describes the Democrat brand: Garbage.
