It’s been a while since we’ve heard from New York Rangers tough guy Matt Rempe, but he was back to his old tricks on Friday night, getting ejected in his first game back in the NHL after a stint in the minors.

Rempe has been down in the American Hockey League with the Hartford Wolf Pack and was called up to the Blueshirts for their Thursday night game against the Dallas Stars.

However, it didn’t take long for Rempe to get back to his old habits of playing a brand of hockey that tends to toe the line of legality…

…or, as in this case, overstep it by quite a bit.

Rempe laid a hit on Dallas’ Miro Heiskanen that pretty much anyone who has ever played hockey at a level where checking is legal knows is a no-no.

Not much room for argument. That was straight to the head while he was looking at Heiskanen’s numbers, Plus, I thought he left his feet to boot.

Rempe was dealt a 5-minute major and a game misconduct.

This led to people noticing some pretty insane stats about how often the 22-year-o;d has gotten ejected in his short NHL career of just 22 games played.

An 18 percent ejection rate, you say?

Well, I’m sure that will be considered when George Parros and the Department of Player Safety decide what kind of supplemental discipline Rempe will be getting at an in-person hearing.

A little bit after that initial tweet was posted, the DPoS announced that Rempe’s hearing would take place on Sunday morning via Zoom.

According to TSN, an in-person hearing means that a suspension of six games or more is on the table.

Is that what Rempe will get? Honestly, I have no idea. The DPoS is famously unpredictable.

That hit was pretty bad, and I think any player would get a few games for it.

However, they also take prior infractions into account, and Rempe was suspended last season, and, like we mentioned, has a bit of a track record.

I think we’re going to see Rempe get slapped with six games. That’s just my feeling, so I don’t want to hear about it when he gets only three.
