The highest ranking uniformed police officer in the New York Police Department resigned Friday night after a report broke that he allegedly requested sexual favors from a subordinate in exchange for overtime.
Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey stepped down following the New York Post inquiring about allegations that he had preyed on Lt. Quathisha Epps and requested sexual favors from her.
“He wanted to have anal sex, vaginal sex, oral sex,” Epps told the outlet. “He was always asking me to kiss his penis.”
The NYPD announced that Maddrey would be replaced on an interim basis by Chief of Patrol John Chell.
“Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch accepted the resignation of Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey Friday night, effective immediately,” a department spokesperson said in a statement. “The NYPD takes all allegations of sexual misconduct seriously, and will thoroughly investigate this matter.”
Maddrey reportedly requested Epps have sex with him at the department headquarters in exchange for overtime. He has reportedly been accused of sexual misconduct in the past.
It was reported on Wednesday, also by the New York Post, that Epps, who was the highest paid police officer in the city last year, taking in more than $400,000 including more than $200,000 in overtime pay, filed for retirement and was then suspended during an investigation by internal affairs about her massive overtime pay.
