Jefferson City, Mo. – Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America issued the following statement this evening in response to a Jackson County’s judge decision on Planned Parenthood’s Amendment 3 lawsuit. Amendment 3 was approved by 51% of Missouri voters in November with pro-abortion activists outspending the pro-life side 8:1.
“Before Election Day, voters were told pro-abortion amendments would safeguard ‘a decision between a woman and her doctor’ and ‘protect women’s lives.’ But now we see the exact opposite. Planned Parenthood’s lawsuit in Missouri reveals these amendments are intended to do the opposite of their catchy slogans. This trojan horse initiative is intended to allow the abortion industry to remove even the most basic health regulations that exist to protect women, girls and the unborn,” said Sue Liebel, state affairs director. “Planned Parenthood’s lawsuit targets hospital admission agreements; basic licensing; informed consent; preventing discriminatory abortions based on race, gender, and Down syndrome diagnoses; and even having doctors involved in an abortion.
“We thank Attorney General Bailey for his tireless efforts to protect Missouri’s women, girls and babies from the deceptive lies of the abortion industry. Last November, Amendment 3 passed with only 51% of the vote. We are confident as Missourians see the true intentions of abortion activists that there will be pro-life victories in Missouri’s future.”
The judge’s decision blocks the following laws from being in effect during litigation:
- Laws protecting babies at conception and 8, 14, 18, and 20 weeks
- Prevention of discriminatory abortions
- Licensing requirements for abortion facilities and ambulatory surgery centers
- The same doctor who prescribes abortion drugs must be the one to treat the complications
- Aborted tissue must have a pathology exam and report
- Admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles or 15 minutes,
- Informed consent
- 72-hour waiting period
- Telemedicine protection
The judge has allowed the following laws to continue while the case moves forward:
- In-person appointment to rule-out ectopic pregnancy and pre-existing conditions
- Same physician that does in the in-person is the one that does the abortion 24-hours later
- Licensing requirements for abortion facilities and ambulatory surgery centers
- Must be a physician that does the abortion (not PAs, nurses, etc.)
- Penalties attached to these laws
