House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., was adamant on Friday that the government would not shut down as Congress is expected to vote on a continuing resolution.

“We will not have a government shutdown,” Johnson told reporters after meeting with GOP lawmakers, according to Politico.

The House is expected to vote on the continuing resolution that failed Thursday, but without provisions raising the debt limit.

Jake Sherman, founder of Punchbowl News, announced the vote on Friday.

“UPDATE — just ONE VOTE,” Sherman posted on X. “[T]he bill that failed last night — without debt limit. Vote this afternoon.”

The bill will need a two-thirds majority vote to suspend the rules to pass the bill without going through a committee.
