President-elect Donald Trump on Friday expressed a preference for letting a government shutdown begin under President Joe Biden’s tenure, if a shutdown must occur.

“If there is going to be a shutdown of government, let it begin now, under the Biden Administration, not after January 20th, under “TRUMP.” This is a Biden problem to solve, but if Republicans can help solve it, they will!” Trump posted.

His remarks come after Republicans failed on Thursday to pass an abridged continuing resolution to avert a shutdown. The lower chamber was initially set to approve a 1547-page long bill that included what Trump called “Democratic giveaways.”

The revised bill was a mere 116 pages, but also included a provision to raise the debt ceiling sought by Trump.
