Bubba Wallace has undoubtedly been in the NASCAR spotlight of late, with his 23XI Racing team showing significant progress in 2024 despite his failing to make the playoffs.
The spotlight shone a little brighter when NASCAR opted to post a video highlight of the controversial driver. But it left fans with a bad taste in their mouths, primarily due to the video’s editing being incredibly confusing.
The execution of this tribute left many fans scratching their heads.
A tribute video meant to “shut out” critics was criticized for its confusing narrative and awkward editing, leading to questions about whether the effort missed the mark in capturing Wallace’s journey and current standing in the sport.
NASCAR’s Bubba Wallace Video Leaves Fans Confused
The Bubba Wallace video tribute begins with an internal view of an ear in which a person summarily snaps off an earbud inside, presumably now blocking out noise.
Like, why?
It appears to have been some sort of reference to Wallace himself admitting to being a better driver, if not a better person, after stepping away from social media and avoiding “toxic comments” from NASCAR fans.
“It’s been so nice,” the polarizing sports figure told reporters back in August. “Just being caught up in other people’s lives, and just start comparing, like, ‘Man, I want…’ it’s just, aside from the toxic comments, social media is just a lot at times.”
Prior to his departure from social media, Bubba Wallace admitted to feeling “miserable” at the track for years due to personal and professional struggles.
Now, thanks to blocking out the noise … er, breaking off an earbud in his ear, Bubaba Wallace is rising to the level of deserving of a NASCAR hype video. I guess.

Missed The Point
More than a few racing fans were left confused by the video. Many of them commented, wondering what they had just watched.
“Admin dropped the most confusing edit in history,” one follower wrote.
Another asked, “Who else missed the point?”
Others, though, wondered why NASCAR was focused on Bubba Wallace, who is a middle-of-the-road driver outright. Especially given his winless drought, which has now stretched to 80 races since his last victory in Kansas in September 2022.
“Most talked about 25th average driver in NASCAR,” a fan wrote.
One person joked, “Is this the excuse for his lack of success?”
Despite missing the 2024 NASCAR playoffs, Bubba Wallace has demonstrated improvement in late-season races, suggesting potential for success next season.
23XI Racing, co-owned by Denny Hamlin and NBA legend Michael Jordan, recently demoted Wallace’s crew chief, Bootie Barker.
