House Republicans are criticizing House Speaker Mike Johnson for not releasing the full text of the spending bill on Tuesday with the Friday deadline to pass government funding around the corner.

The Continuing Resolution is expected to keep the government funded through March 14 as well as about $100 billion in disaster relief funding to respond to the damage from hurricanes. The new session of Congress begins on Jan. 3. The GOP will control the House and Senate.

“We get this negotiated crap, and we’re forced to eat this crap sandwich,” said Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), a House Freedom Caucus member, according to a report from The Hill. “Why? Because freaking Christmas is right around the corner. It’s the same dang thing every year. Legislate by crisis, legislate by calendar. Not legislate because it’s the right thing to do.”

Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., said he won’t vote for the CR, given that it won’t reduce the deficit.

“It’s the opposite of what the DOGE Commission is trying to do. So, am I voting for it? No, I’m not,” Norman said, referring to the Department of Government Efficiency that President-elect Trump has established. He tapped Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and former 2024 GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to run DOGE.

Johnson reportedly said in a closed-door conference meeting on Tuesday that the CR is a result of collaboration with members and committees, prompting Rep. Jason Smith, R-Mo., the chair of the Ways and Means Committee, to say, “not true.”

Johnson said at a news conference that he expects the text of the CR to be released later on Tuesday.

“We’ve been working around the clock to get the CR done. It was intended to be and it was until recent days a very simple, a very clean CR…but a couple intervening things have occurred,” he said.
