Republican Sen. Eric Schmitt has demanded that the Biden administration stop its sale of parts of the border wall materials for pennies on the dollar.

The administration of President Joe Biden is working to “sabotage” efforts by President-elect Donald Trump to secure the border while only getting 0.2 percent of the value of the materials for taxpayers, the senator from Missouri said.

“I am writing to demand that you immediately cease the auctioning off of border wall materials,” the senator said in a letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. “Senate Republicans, including the incoming Chairman, as well as my colleagues on the Senate Armed Services have raised the absurdity of selling border wall materials through letters, nomination hearings, and through the National Defense Authorization Act legislative process.”

“A representative sale on December 11, 2024 concluded with four sections of border wall, accounting for almost 16,000 pounds worth of steel, selling for $105. If purely sold for scrap metal at the average cost of $694 per metric ton, the value of this lot is worth $5,219,” he said before he accused the administration of sabotaging the president-elect.

“While recouping less than 0.02% of taxpayer money used to secure these materials, the Biden Administration is sabotaging the incoming Trump Administration just weeks ahead of President Trump’s inauguration,” he said. “These border wall materials will cost tens of thousands of U.S. taxpayer dollars to replace and will be critical to stem the record flow of millions of illegal immigrants who were welcomed across our border during the Biden Administration.”

The sale was originally discovered in an investigative report by The Daily Wire when an agent spoke to investigative reporter James Lalino.

“They are taking it from three stations: Nogales, Tucson, and Three Points. The goal is to move all of it off the border before Christmas.” The agent said before estimating that around a “half a mile worth of unused border wall is being moved every day.”

Texas GOP Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick said that his state would purchase every piece of the border wall material and give it to the president-elect.

“We mean business in Texas, and Tom Homan means business and President Trump means business,” he said to Fox News’ Laura Ingraham. “And I don’t know if you heard the latest today, Laura, but Joe Biden is now hauling off the border wall that’s been lying down for years and he wants to auction it off starting at $5 apiece.”

“Message their White House right now: I will bid on all of that wall and we will buy it in Texas and we will give it to Donald Trump,” he said. “So I’m gonna find out first thing in the morning where we are going to take the bid. I’ve got a billion dollars in my pocket to do it. I write the budget with (Texas state) Senator Joan Huffman. We have the money. We’re gonna have about $6 billion in our budget for border security. We’ll buy it.”

“Dan, don’t drive up the cost,” the host quipped. “Don’t drive up the cost. It’s only five bucks apiece of the wall.”

“I know, and I will go in and buy it all,” the Republican responded. “I’m not going to drive up the —”

“What does this tell you about the Biden people,” the host said. “They’re essentially greenlighting – they want more people coming in.”

“I told you, they’re despicable,” the lieutenant governor said. “They’re despicable what they’re doing to the American people. And the American people obviously aren’t gonna tolerate it, that’s why they were thrown out. But the idea – we’ve been trying to buy this wall from them for four years and they wouldn’t sell it to us.”
