The country music star Morgan Wallen got some very good news on Thursday about the felony charges he faced for allegedly throwing a chair off the sixth floor of a bar in Nashville, Tennessee back in April.
Wallen’s Charges Reduced
Wallen, 31, was charged with three counts of felony reckless endangerment and one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct after the incident. The Tennesseean has since confirmed that Wallen’s three felony charges have been reduced to misdemeanors, a huge relief for the popular singer.
Now, Wallen faces two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment without a weapon.

Wallen’s Arrest
Wallen was partying at Eric Church’s bar in Nashville on April 7 when this incident occurred. Witnesses told WKRN that they saw Wallen “pick up the chair, throw it over him, laughing afterward.”
Two Metro Nashville Police Department officers were standing on the street below Chief’s on Broadway when a chair came hurdling down out of nowhere. The chair ultimately landed right by the two cops.
At least one source claimed that the problem stems from alcohol use.
“Morgan is generally a nice, fun person to hang out with, but when he gets going he doesn’t know when to stop,” a source later told People Magazine. “Morgan and alcohol is a problem and it’s been a problem that keeps coming back around.”
After being hit with three felony charges, Wallen was facing six years in prison. Needless to say, this sobered him up pretty quickly.
“I didn’t feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks,” Wallen said two weeks after his arrest. “I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s.”
“I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility,” he continued. “I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe. Regarding my tour, there will be no change.”

Wallen’s Previous Run-Ins With The Law
This isn’t the first time that Wallen has run into problems with the law. Back in 2020, he was arrested on public intoxication and disorderly conduct charges. He also spent thirty days in treatment the next year after he was caught on camera using a racial slur following a drunken night out with friends.
“I’ve not ever been the one to follow the rules as much as some people,” Wallen said that year.
Wallen went on to explain that he traces his rebelliousness back to being the son of a preacher growing up in Sneedville, Tennessee, where “everybody pretty much knows what you do. They expect you to behave a certain way, and if you don’t, they scold you. I absolutely hated that growing up, and I think a lot of my tendencies come from that.”
While we’re happy for Wallen that he’s had his charges reduced, we can only hope that he uses this experience to make some changes in his life. Wallen is one of the most talented country music stars working today. It would truly be a shame if he let partying and alcohol derail his career!
