Capitol police arrested a 33-year-old Illinois man accused of assaulting Rep. Nancy Mace at the U.S. Capitol.
James McIntyre was arrested on Tuesday after the alleged assault that occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Mace said she was “accosted” at the Capitol by a “pro-trans” man and called out the “tr*ns violence and threats” on her life in a post on social media.
The South Carolina Republican has been vocal about keeping trans-identifying men out of women’s restrooms funded by the federal government, most recently making headlines for her stand on the issue at the U.S. Capitol.

“I was physically accosted at the Capitol tonight by a pro-tr*ns man,” Mace wrote in a post on X.
“One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm and it’ll heal just fine,” she added. “The Capitol police arrested the guy. Your tr*ns violence and threats on my life will only make me double down. FAFO. #HoldTheLine.”
I was physically accosted tonight on Capitol grounds over my fight to protect women. Capitol police have arrested him.

“Tonight, the United States Capitol Police (USCP) arrested a person who is accused of assaulting a U.S. representative,” according to a statement from a Capitol Police spokesperson.
“Just before 6:00 p.m., the Member of Congress’s office reported an incident in the Rayburn House Office Building. House Division officers, and agents with the Threat Assessment Section, tracked down the suspect,” the statement continued.
“After an investigative interview, officers arrested the suspect, 33-year-old James McIntyre of Illinois. McIntyre is facing a charge for Assaulting a Government Official,” the spokesperson said.
The police noted that McIntyre went through security screening before entering the Rayburn House Office Building which was open to the public at the time.

“The incident allegedly occurred at an event of the Foster Youth Caucus at which Mace, a co-chair of the group, spoke, according to two sources familiar with the matter,” Axios reported, adding that the suspect was there for the event.
Mace, who has revealed that she had been raped at age 16, has spoken out about the threats to her life. Last month, she shared a video of a transgender individual who threatened to bash her head into the floor of a women’s bathroom “until you are dead.”
This is the exact type of man I don’t want in the women’s restroom with me.
He says he’s going to
Grab my ratty looking f*****g hair
Drag my face to the floor
Repeatedly bash my head until blood everywhere

Mace responded to many comments on her post about Tuesday’s alleged attack. Many X users expressed shock and anger and some cautioned her to increase security.
I appreciate it.

Up your security. As an ideology begins to die, it resembles a wounded animal. It will carry out desperate act after desperate act until there’s nothing left but defeat. The public now knows this is a toxic ideology and it’s dying. Expect more desperate acts from these lunatics.
