Americans are driving clunkers in record numbers.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, the average age of cars on the road is higher than ever.

In addition to being unable to afford new cars, Americans are increasingly unable to pay their mounting costs for auto maintenance.

“Thirty years ago the average passenger car was about 8.4 years old and today that is 13.6 years.”

The report offered several reasons for this, including:
