Serious question: Why does anyone live in Illinois?

Honestly, why live in this state?

Let’s look at these new laws, starting with this one we showed you back in the spring.

No joke, they’re changing it so you must say “justice-impacted individual” instead of “offender” in official language concerning their Adult Redeploy program.

So glad all those justice-impacted individuals won’t be offended!

What’s next? Oh, here’s a good one:

Yup, if you’ve got an illegal on staff you’ll never know. Unless you’re required to by law. Though I do wonder if federal law will matter once Trump is in office.

A new Illinois law prohibits Illinois employers from voluntarily enrolling in the E-Verify program or similar Electronic Employment Verification System unless they are required to by federal or state law.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, E-Verify is ‘an electronic system that compares a worker’s Form I-9 information with government databases to verify employment eligibility’ to legally work in the United States.

Again,

Next up, the Office of Pretrial Services.

Pretrial services have been around for a while, but now they’ve been turned over to the state, which is always good, right?

And here’s my least favorite of the new laws, and why I’ll be skipping my yearly stay in The Loop this year:

A new law will ban hotels with 50 rooms or more from providing guests with single-use plastic bottles and provide civil penalties for operators who violate the rule. In 2026, hotels with less than 50 rooms will also be banned from offering single-use bottles to guests.

Essentially, you won’t have shampoo, conditioner, or lotion. So make sure to pack your bag with those items since the State of Illinois thinks you should go without them.

That’s it for dumb laws in Illinois.

I’m sure they’ll have plenty more in store for us over the next year or so.
