Speculation is building about Matt Gaetz’s next move after the former congressman’s wife posted a cryptic message to social media teasing what could be a major announcement.

Gaetz resigned from Congress last month after the uniparty successfully sank his chances to be President-elect Donald J. Trump’s attorney general, leaving many to wonder what will be next in his career.

“Big news coming next week!” Ginger Gaetz wrote in a post to X on Sunday, sharing a picture of her very determined-looking husband.

With Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis term-limited and no clear successor to build on his legacy, the door would seem to be wide open for Gaetz to throw his hat into the ring for the top elected spot in the Sunshine State.

Mrs. Gaetz’s announcement drew a reaction from X users who were left in suspense over what the “big news” would be.

The Florida Republican was forced to withdraw from consideration amid a savage smear campaign based on sexual allegations contained in a report by a House Ethics Committee stacked with allies of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy who Gaetz led an overthrow against and who has vowed revenge.

The salacious details of the committee’s investigation were leaked to the media which flew into action after newly elected Trump tapped the self-proclaimed “firebrand” to replace Merrick Garland at the Justice Department, a move that struck fear into the hearts of criminals in high places.

Rather than be dragged through the mud for months only to be rejected by a gaggle of backstabbing GOP senators loyal to Mitch McConnell, Gaetz chose to decline the nomination which “was unfairly becoming a distraction.”

“There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1,” he wrote on X. The nomination soon went to his fellow Floridian Pam Bondi, the state’s former attorney general.

“I’m still going to be in the fight, but it’s going to be from a new perch,” Gaetz recently told conservative podcaster Charlie Kirk. A remark suggesting that he’s not going to just go away, much to the dismay of his enemies.
