Staffing the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump continued to be the talk of the town, albeit negatively among the corporate media pundit class. Sunday a set of announcements were sure to stir further discussion as personal attorney Alina Habba became a White House counselor designee and Lara Trump stated her intent to step down from the Republican National Committee.
Having served in the role of RNC co-chair alongside Michael Whatley since March 2024, the president-elect’s daughter-in-law issued a statement on X that detailed her goals had been to reach new fundraising records, ensure election integrity, and turn out low propensity voters.
“We accomplished all three. The job I came to do is now complete and I intend to formally step down from the RNC at our next meeting,” she announced having expressed, “Serving as the @GOP co-chair throughout the course of the most consequential election in American history has truly been the honor of my life.”

At the RNC, we had three distinct goals:
1) surpass all fundraising records
2) build the largest army of lawyers and poll watchers… pic.twitter.com/bcHdDHhwQq

Wife to Eric Trump, Lara’s name has been heavily pushed as a replacement after Trump nominated Florida Sen. Marco Rubio to lead the State Department.
During an appearance on Fox News Sunday, she addressed that possibility once more when Howard Kurtz asked if it was an “asset being a Trump.”
“Certainly, look, we’ve all had the opportunity over the past nine years to fully involve ourselves in politics, to understand the American people, what they want, and we’ve all been residents of the state of Florida now for over three years,” said the RNC co-chair. “If that’s something that’s put in front of me, it would be a true honor.”
While it remains to be seen who Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will appoint to fill the vacancy, having indicated vetting and interviews were underway as many, individuals like Maye Musk voiced favor for a “smart, young, outspoken woman” to buck the “old man’s club,” of the Senate while a new job was offered to Habba.
Having served as representation for Trump in his New York civil fraud trial as well as in the lawsuits brought by E. Jean Carroll, the president-elect declared on Truth Social Sunday that she would continue on at the White House.
“I am pleased to announce that Alina Habba will join my White House Team as Counselor to the President. Alina has been a tireless advocate for Justice, a fierce Defender of the Rule of Law, and an invaluable Advisor to my Campaign and Transition Team,” wrote Trump. “She has been unwavering in her loyalty, and unmatched in her resolve — standing with me through numerous ‘trials,’ battles, and countless days in Court.”
“Few understand the Weaponization of the ‘Injustice’ System better than Alina, who has fought relentlessly against the full force of Lawfare with courage and an unshakable commitment to Justice,” he went on. “As a first generation American of Middle Eastern Heritage, she has become a role model for women in Law and Politics, most recently being named Chaldean Woman of the Year. Congratulations to Alina, her husband Gregg, and her three beautiful children, Chloe, Luke, and Parker.”
