United Health Group CEO Andrew Witty

United Health Group CEO Andrew Witty gave an address to the company’s employees on Friday after the previous CEO, Brian Thompson, was gunned down in New York City while attending an investor’s conference in Midtown.

As previously reported, UnitedHealthCare CEO Brian Thompson was shot in the chest Wednesday morning outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan in what is believed to be a targeted attack.

Thompson, 50, arrived before 7 am for a conference when he was shot at multiple times by a masked man who police say was waiting for him to arrive, the New York Post reported.

The assailant calmly executed Brian Thompson and then took off down 6th Street on an e-bicycle.

According to CBS News, the shooter waited for hours overnight and used a silencer when he fatally shot Brian Thompson.

There is still a manhunt underway for the ‘smiling assassin.’

Video of United Health Group CEO’s address to employees was leaked to independent reporter Ken Klippenstein.

Andrew Witty complained about the media coverage of the shooting death of Brian Thompson and cautioned the employees against speaking with the press.

“You’ve seen a lot of media interest in this situation with a huge amount of misinformation and frankly offensive communication,” Witty said to the employees as he he called the media’s coverage “aggressive, inappropriate and disrespectful.”

“People are writing things we simply don’t recognize,” he added.

“I’d like to give you a little bit of advice around the media…My strong advice and request to everybody is just don’t engage with the media. If you’re approached, I would recommend not responding and, if necessary, simply refer them to our own media organization,” he said.

Andrew Witty also told employees “we guard against… unnecessary care.”
