Democrats may have been pasted in last month’s election but they are undeterred when it comes to their radicalism, tapping an anti-police activist to head up an influential House committee.
By electing Rep. Greg Casar (D-Texas) as the new chieftain of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, the party is sticking with the far-left ideology that was rejected by voters who overwhelmingly elected Donald J. Trump for a second term, choosing to reject moderation in favor of more of the same extremism.
Before he went to Washington, Casar was a city council member in Austin, a city that made national headlines for its downsizing of the police which has resulted in skyrocketing crime in the Lone Star State’s capital.
In an August 2020 post to Twitter, since renamed X, Casar boasted when legislation that he sponsored passed, gutting the police department budget and cutting off three classes of incoming cadets.
We did it!! Austin City Council just reduced APD’s budget by over $100 million *and* reinvested resources into our community’s safety and well-being. Tens of thousands of you have called, emailed, and testified. You made the impossible into a reality. #blacklivesmatter pic.twitter.com/trrYSDEOK6

The legislation passed unanimously during the summer of George Floyd when violent race riots raged across the country, egged on by elected Democrats.
On Thursday, Casar was unanimously voted in as the head of the Progressive Caucus by his peers, replacing Israel-hating Hamas rape apologist Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) as the chair, new leadership that is even more radical than that of the Seattle socialist.
“Far-left radical’ is a really good way to describe what he did in [Austin],” said Austin Police Retired Officers Association President
Dennis Farris.
The congressman’s track record from Austin shows that he’s a fire-breathing leftist who will fit right in with the likes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib.
He spearheaded a move to reject a contract between the city and the Austin Police Association that had been mutually agreed upon, resulting in retirements and hiring troubles as a result of the uncertain nature of job security and benefits.
His 2020 legislation stripped the department of over $100 million, instead giving the money to left-wing priorities such as increased access to abortion, affordable housing, and food security, a politically correct term for government handouts.
The cuts also led to the city redirecting 911 calls to mental health professionals, further putting the safety of residents at risk.
“There was a thought in 2020 that the Democrats were actually going to flip the Texas House, and Casar was used in several campaign ads by Republicans all over the state. Democrat friends of mine thought the ‘defund the police movement’ was the reason that Democrats didn’t win,” Farris told Fox News Digital. “I’ve spoken to several Democratic friends of mine, and they will tell you that [Casar] was a hindrance to the state-level Democrats in 2020.”
“The progressive movement needs to change. We need to re-emphasize core economic issues every time some of these cultural war issues are brought up,” Casar told NBC News after he was elected to head up the caucus.
“So when we hear Republicans attacking queer Americans again, I think the progressive response needs to be that a trans person didn’t deny your health insurance claim, a big corporation did — with Republican help. We need to connect the dots for people that the Republican Party obsession with these culture war issues is driven by Republicans’ desire to distract voters and have them look away while Republicans pick their pocket,” he added, showing that the party’s priorities will not change despite the electoral drubbing.
