Could New York City Mayor Eric Adams be the next high-profile Democrat to jump ship and join the Republican Party? Of course, in Adams’ case, he’d be rejoining a party he once belonged to.

Adams was asked during a local interview if he would ever consider rejoining the GOP, and he did not reject the possibility.

“The party that’s the most important for me is the American Party,” Hizzoner said. “I’m a part of the American Party. I love this country. This is the home of the free, the land of the brave. My 19-year-old nephew died on the fields of Vietnam, protecting what this city and this country represents.”

“And that’s the party I’m going to always be a member of and I did it as a police officer when I wore that bulletproof vest for 22 years,” he continued. “And I’m gonna do it with this blue suit as the mayor of the city of New York.”

As the host noted in closing out the segment, Adams is scheduled to meet with President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming border czar, Tom Homan next week as New York continues to struggle with illegal immigration.

The mayor expressed interest in working with the incoming administration during a press conference on Tuesday.

“I would love to sit down with the border czar and hear his thoughts on how we are going to address those who are harming our citizens,” Adams said. “The federal government made me take $6.4 billion out of providing these services that we should. We should all be angry at what happened to our city under this administration.”

“Those who are here committing crimes, robberies, shooting at police officers, raping innocent people, have been a harm to our country. I want to sit down and hear the plan on how we are going to address them,” he added. “Those are the people I am talking about, and I would love to sit down with the border czar and hear his thoughts on how we are going to address those who are harming our citizens.”

The Big Apple saw 200,000 illegal immigrants bussed into the city under the Biden administration and is overrun with nearly 60,000 criminal aliens, according to the New York Post.

Of course, Adams is under investigation for federal corruption charges and may find himself in need of currying favor from President Trump, as noted on social media:

Overall, social media users don’t have a high opinion of Adams… here’s a quick sampling of other responses to the story, as seen on X:
