FBI special agents in Boston arrested a City Councilor on Friday morning on charges of public corruption, according to reports.

While the FBI’s statement did not release the name of the lawmaker, media reports identified her as Tania Fernandes Anderson, Fox News reported, citing local outlet WCVB.

Federal authorities had been investigating Fernandes Anderson, and WCVB reported seeing FBI agents outside her Dorchester home this morning as they took her into custody.

The station reports that Fernandes Anderson is facing federal charges of wire fraud and theft related to federally funded programs.

The station also reported that in 2023, the Massachusetts Ethics Commission found that Fernandes Anderson violated conflict-of-interest laws by hiring her sister and son at City Hall after her election in 2021, subsequently raising their salaries to $70,000 annually.

She reportedly ended their employment in 2022 and settled the violation with a $5,000 fine.

Additionally, last month, Massachusetts’ Office of Campaign and Political Finance notified her campaign that it had accepted contributions exceeding the legal limit and failed to file deposit information on time, according to WCVB.

Anderson serves District 7, which includes the Boston neighborhoods of Roxbury, Dorchester, Fenway, and part of the South End, Fox reported.

“Councilor Anderson was elected to the Boston City Council on November 2, 2021, becoming the first African immigrant and Muslim-American elected to the Boston City Council,” reads a bio of her on the City of Boston’s website.

“Before serving as Councilor, Tania was the Executive Director of Bowdoin Geneva Main Streets, a parent advocate with the Boston Public Schools, program manager for a homeless women’s shelter, a business owner, and a child social worker. She has also been a foster mom to 17 kids while raising two biological children,” the bio added.

Last Saturday, President-elect Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account to announce that would be appointing national security expert Kash Patel to head the department.

“I am proud to announce that Kashyap ‘Kash’ Patel will serve as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Kash is a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and ‘America First’ fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People,” Trump noted.

“He played a pivotal role in uncovering the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, standing as an advocate for truth, accountability, and the Constitution. Kash did an incredible job during my First Term, where he served as Chief of Staff at the Department of Defense, Deputy Director of National Intelligence, and Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council. Kash has also tried over 60 jury trials,” the president-elect continued.

“This FBI will end the growing crime epidemic in America, dismantle the migrant criminal gangs, and stop the evil scourge of human and drug trafficking across the Border. Kash will work under our great Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to bring back Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity to the FBI,” he added.

That said, the current director, Christopher Wray — whom Trump appointed to replace James Comey after he was fired in 2017 — would either have to resign his 10-year appointment or be summarily fired by the incoming president.

Patel has terrified the DC establishment with what he has said about the FBI and the Department of Justice.

On “The Shawn Ryan Show” he said that “The FBI’s footprint has gotten so freakin’ big.”

Trump has repeatedly accused the Biden-Harris administration of “weaponizing” the FBI and Justice Department.

The FBI conducted an unprecedented raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in August 2013 on allegations that he illegally obtained classified documents. And Joe Biden’s Justice Department, using special counsel Jack Smith, filed charges in that case and also for Trump’s alleged “election interference” following his 2020 loss.

Now that Trump will be the next president, the process of dismissing both of those cases is underway.
