A 7.0 magnitude earthquake on Thursday hit Northern California, prompted a tsunami warning along the coast north of San Francisco.
The U.S. Geological Survey reports the earthquake hit at 10:44 a.m. Pacific Time, near Ferndale, a small city in coastal Humboldt County near the Oregon border. The quake was reportedly felt as far south as San Francisco.
Later, a 5.8-magnitude quake hit near Cobb, California, according to CBS News.
The quakes resulted in the National Weather Service issuing the tsunami warning in which coastal residents, including some in the San Francisco Bay Area, were urged to evacuate inland.
