On this episode of “Try to Control Your Shock and Amazement…”

Yep, on today’s episode of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” our favorite cartoon, co-host Joe Scarborough and his equally fun co-host and wife, Mika Brzezinski, refused to cover President Joe Biden’s sweeping pardon of his son, Hunter Biden, as either of the show’s top two stories.

The dynamic duo, along with their guests, instead chose to first whine about President-elect Donald Trump’s nominations of Kash Patel as incoming FBI Director and Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense.

Then, 52 minutes into the show, Scarborough finally “reported” on the pardon, offering zero commentary as the panel discussed the beyond-controversial decision by the lame-duck president.

Yet, MSNBC — and “Morning Joe” in particular (along with race-hustler Joy Reid’s “The ReidOut”)  — continue to appear incapable of grasping why their pathetic ratings continue to swirl down the toilet.

Mika kicked off the festivities thusly:

Republican Senator Mike Rounds of South Dakota, expressing his support for current FBI Director Christopher Wray, after Donald Trump announced over the weekend he will nominate loyalist Kash Patel to that position, one which shouldn’t normally even be open for a nomination. We’ll have the latest about that controversial selection from the President-elect.

Also ahead, we’ll dig into newly-surfaced allegations against Trump’s pick for Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, as reports of whistleblowers have surfaced detailing years of troubling behavior.

And we’ll go to President Biden’s pardon of his son Hunter, who is set to be sentenced later this month on federal tax evasion and gun charges.

Blatant bias? Of course. Even I would’ve thought that these clowns would lead with the pardon story, if only to vociferously defend it.

Scarborough added:

We’ve got a lot of great guests straight ahead to talk about the two big stories this morning. One, of course, Kash Patel. Two, the breaking news overnight regarding Pete Hegseth–more information.

We’ll also get to the Hunter Biden pardon, later.

As the show dragged on, obsessed with Trump’s appointments, Mika later said:

Still ahead on Morning Joe, we’re going to get to President Biden’s controversial decision to issue a full and unconditional pardon to his son Hunter, and the swift reaction from Capitol Hill. We’re back in 90 seconds.

So, did they finally broach the issue of the day after the 90-second break? Not a chance. Here’s Joe:

Joyce, before we let you go, I do want to ask you about your concern about Kash Patel possibly being the FBI Director. Again, a possibility. Donald Trump would have to fire Christopher Wray first, as he said, he wants to do.

But then, he’s talking about putting in somebody who has promised to jail judges, jail journalists, go after people inside the Justice Department who did not go along with the 2020 conspiracy theories about stolen elections.

What are the dangers of putting in somebody that has promised us he’s going to jail journalists if they didn’t go along with the Stop the Steal conspiracy theory?

Various descriptors come to mind: outrageous, blatantly biased, comical theater, and irresponsible among them.

While early sources, including MSNBC, didn’t report on what Joe and Mika said about the pardon when they finally got around to bringing it up, a separate Monday op-ed on MSNBC.com predictably covered the huge story under the headline, “The unfair prosecution of Hunter Biden is over — finally.”

The op-ed began with the subhead, “Hunter Biden’s criminal cases were the direct result of a political campaign by Donald Trump and his supporters in an attempt to attack Joe Biden,” absurdly followed in part with:

President Joe Biden’s “full and unconditional pardon” he issued for his son Hunter Biden on Sunday evening covers a lot of ground: for offenses Hunter “has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 1, 2014 through December 1, 2024” including the cases he has in Delaware (for which he was convicted on June 11) and in California (to which he pleaded on Sept. 5).

The accompanying statement the president issued made it clear that he believes Hunter Biden was “selectively and unfairly” prosecuted simply because he is his son. Joe Biden wrote, in part: “I also believe raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice.”

I, too, believe that Hunter Biden’s criminal cases were the direct result of a political campaign by Donald Trump and his fanatical supporters in an attempt to attack Joe Biden.

[…]

The tortured history of the cases speaks volumes about why these cases were politically motivated and unprecedented in their prosecution.

Trump Derangement Syndrome is real, of course, and there’s no better example in media of its delusional impact on the brains of those afflicted with it than MSNBC.

And that swirling sound you hear? Yeah, that’s MSNBC’s ratings circling the toilet bowl.
