President Joe Biden and his wife First Lady Jill Biden will reportedly attend the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.

According to Senior Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates, the president will be keeping the promise he made to attend the inaugural proceedings of whoever wins the 2024 presidential race.

“The president promised that he would attend the inauguration of whomever won the election. He and the First Lady are going to honor that promise and attend the inauguration,” Bates said in a statement.

Biden hosted Trump at the White House following his trouncing of Vice President Kamala Harris, congratulating the past and future president with a surprisingly warm ceremony. This came after a heated election cycle that saw many on the left refer to Trump as an enemy of democracy who shouldn’t be allowed near the Oval Office again.

“Congratulations. Look forward to a smooth transition,” Biden said during the meeting. “Welcome back.”

“Politics is tough and it’s in many cases not a nice world, but it is a nice world today,” Trump said in response. “I appreciate it very much.”

It is worth noting that Trump did not attend the inauguration of President Biden, which he had announced on X January 2021.
