Zachary Leeman at Mediaite reported Jon Stewart had thoughts about the Trump transition and the TV-star ramifications on his “Weekly Show” podcast. Asked if whether there will be “retribution” for leftist late-night hosts from Team Trump, Stewart said “probably some in subtle forms, some maybe more explicit.”
Is that just criticism on Truth Social, or an IRS audit? Because just mocking your mockers isn’t really “retribution,” it’s just rebuttal.
Then came a riff mocking Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski announcing with pseudo-profundity that they traveled to Mar-a-Lago to “reopen communications” with Donald Trump like it was an international diplomacy mission.
“I’m not going down there right now, obviously my membership to the club is pending,” Stewart joked. “I assume they’re gonna call my references.” After joking he’s adept at “chandelier-polishing,” he turned on the Scarboroughs.
“Joe and Mika going down there might be my favorite — when they had to come out there and go, ‘and so we did.’ Like, they spent the year going, ‘this man will destroy all that you hold dear, he is a Hitler-Mussolini cocktail mix, and we must all stand’ — Literally one week later, they’re like, ‘so we go and we have lunch, a light lunch. I get the watercress salad and you know Joey, he loves the shrimp fra diavolo, and the Mar-a-Lago shrimp fra diavolo is delicious.’”
He mocked the insincerity of it all: “I thought that was one of the more remarkable — but it shows the performative nature of so much of all of this shit, which is, again, when you talk about credibility, like eeeeee,” he said, cringing at the thought.
Jon Stewart calls bullshit on those trying to get in Trump’s good graces when just a month ago, they were calling him a fascist. #TheWeeklyShow pic.twitter.com/IuJYOz5oj0
