The current U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, the highest-ranking military officer and probably more importantly, the person has the ear of the President of the United States on military matters, is the man pictured above. Do you know his name?

That’s General C.Q. Brown. If President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, is confirmed, he’ll be among those who will be asked to clear out their desks come January and that’s riling some people.

Before I get to that, here are a few reminders on why Brown needs to go:

Joint Chiefs Chairman Knew Austin Was Hospitalized and Didn’t Tell the White House or the Service Chiefs

Remember in January, when our nation’s current Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was in communicado from the chain of command for nearly 72 hours? If you need a refresher on Gen. Brown’s role in it, read streiff’s piece above. As I wrote in a follow-up story, no one was ever disciplined or fired for that debacle.

One of the critics of Pete Hegseth’s plans of letting sunlight into the dismal corners of our current woke military ranks is Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska, who’s a Republican. During an interview with NewsNation’s Chris Stirewalt on “The Hill Sunday,” the congressman began by admitting he agrees with 90 percent of Hegseth’s statements.

“I think I’m in agreement with 90 percent of what he has to say. I would like to push back on one thing though,” Bacon said, noting Hegseth’s idea for generals

After prompting from Stirewalt’s question to rev up the engines on “character,” Bacon laid out a bizarre laundry list of “defects” that he believes senators should consider, including the fact that Hegseth has been divorced several times. Add that to the ugly anti-Christian smears that the left has already tried:

When he spoke to the nominee’s remarks about firing woke generals, though, it got even worse, as Rep. Bacon refused to lay any blame, appearing unaware of the length of time this diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) disease has pervaded our cultural institutions, including the military.

He said:

“[Hegseth’s] been wanting to go after generals for doing too much DEI. There’s also been Lieutenant General Donahue who led our forces out of Afghanistan.

I just want to warn people on this. Our generals and our military respond to civilian control.

Essentially, Bacon claims that we should lay this at the feet of President Biden, Vice President Harris, and DefSec Austin–and that President Trump would lay out new orders to end the practice.

There’s another problem with criticisms of Hegseth. One of the big headlines going into the Sunday shows was the release of a CBS News/YouGov poll, which said Americans are giving the Trump 47 transition high marks, including on the president-elect’s cabinet choices.

This week on “Face The Nation,” Senator Rand Paul very simply reminded everyone, in the short clip below, why Hegseth is going to kick out the woke generals and others like Gen. Brown, as some fret he might. Notice the satisfying weariness in Paul’s voice, as he is forced to answer another baseless, legacy media defense of DEI. Listen as he rightly defends promotion based on merit, as future Defense Secretary Hegseth will do.

Bingo.
