Fox News Chief Political Analyst Brit Hume said President-elect Donald J. Trump should ignore talk from supporters that he has an “enormous mandate” after his historic election victory over Kamala Harris.

Americans sent the former president back to the White House with a decisive electoral win and at the time, a significant lead in the popular vote, but two weeks later as the counting of sketchy ballots goes on in California and other areas, the number has been shaved to Trump now having less than 50 percent.

During Monday’s edition of “Special Report” on Fox News, Hume threw cold water on the idea that despite the GOP winning control of the White House and both houses of Congress, Trump has a mandate to make sweeping changes.

While acknowledging that Trump’s win was “clear and convincing… but, whether it is a landslide producing a mandate is another matter,” Hume suggested that he no longer can claim a dominant win in the popular vote with the ballot harvesting likely to continue for weeks if not longer and less than 50 percent not qualifying as a “landslide.”

“The other way to look at it is by states,” Hume told anchor Bret Baier, pointing out that Ronald Reagan won 49 states when he crushed Democrat Walter Mondale in 1984. Trump won 31 states.

“There’s some accounts now that say that updated counts that say that he slipped below 50 percent of the popular vote, now we don’t elect people based on the popular vote but is one way to measure whether somebody has won a landslide. And the other way to look at it is by states. Ronald Reagan won 49 states. Richard Nixon won, I think, 44 states. Barry Goldwater won only one state against… Lyndon Johnson in 1974,” Hume said, overshooting LBJ’s 1964 landslide win by a decade. “Now were, those were true landslides allowing a candidate or elected president to claim a mandate.”

“I think the danger for the president here is… or his team at least, might make the same mistake that Joe Biden made.” he continued.  “Joe Biden won a narrow victory, convincing, perhaps, but narrow, in 2020 and once he got control of the Senate and had control of both houses, he started thinking that he was gonna be the new FDR and was gonna pass all kinds of great social legislation, some of the results of which were an outbreak of inflation from which his candidacy and his campaign never recovered.”

“So, you have to be careful about these things, mandates, real mandates are rare, and landslides are perhaps even rarer,” Hume said.

The lack of a mandate for Trump has become the latest narrative for the establishment media as it circles the wagons to protect the swamp.

It should be obvious what Democrats are doing with their ongoing ballot counting, they are in the process of nullifying the popular vote for Trump and throwing doubt on the mandate for change that he was given by the American people.
