President-elect Donald Trump will travel to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday to visit the White House to meet with President Biden for the traditional transition-of-power meeting and to Capitol Hill to meet with fellow Republicans who during last week’s elections retained control of the House.
The meeting with Biden will largely be a formality between the two political rivals –Trump lost his 2020 reelection bid to Biden. And Biden, who this past summer dropped out of the presidential race, has been outspoken about his opposition to Trump running the country again.
The House Republican Conference is set to vote today on its leadership team, with Speaker Mike Johnson, a Trump supporter, expected to retain the post. Johnson won the post in January in a contentious intra-chamber battle that included the conference’s most conservative wing that resulted in the ouster of then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, is expected have an easier time Wednesday, considering he has Trump’s back, with the GOP controlling the White House, the Senate and the House.
