President-elect Donald Trump announced Sunday night that he was appointing Tom Homan, who served as acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in his last administration, as his “border czar.”
Homan is known for his no-nonsense approach to illegal immigration and the exploitation of U.S. immigration law. After Trump’s announcement, a video of Homan sparring with U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) resurfaced online. In the 2019 clip, Homan stressed his ‘zero-tolerance’ approach to border enforcement during questioning about children being separated from their parents — a concern that fell off the map when Biden was elected president.
AOC was no match for Homan, as seen when she claimed that those who enter the U.S. illegally to then claim asylum are not charged with a crime.
“If you want to seek asylum, go to a port of entry and do it the legal way,” Homan replied. “The attorney general of the United States has made that clear.”

Trump said in his post that Homan “will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin.”
On that note, the new border czar let it be known while speaking at the Republican National Convention in July how he would approach that task.
“I got a message to the millions of illegal aliens that Joe Biden has released into our country in violation of federal law: You better start packing now,” he said. “You’re damn right.”
Homan also dismissed the fearmongering on the left during a recent appearance on 60 Minutes, while noting that one way to avoid separating children from their parents was that “families could be deported together.”

“It’s not going to be a mass sweep of neighborhoods. It’s not going to be building concentration camps. I’ve read it all. It’s ridiculous,” Homan added.
